John Good is the CEO and a member of the board of directors of NexPoint Storage Partners, an investment group at NexPoint that specializes in self-storage assets. In addition to leading NexPoint Storage Partners and overseeing self-storage investments across NexPoint’s investment vehicles, Good lends his many years of real estate, legal, investment, and capital markets experience to the broader NexPoint platform in a senior advisory capacity. Good previously served as chairman and CEO of Jernigan Capital, Inc. (“JCAP”), a NYSE-listed self-storage REIT that NexPoint acquired in 2020 in a take-private transaction.

During his five-year tenure, Good grew JCAP from a $110 million capital REIT to a nearly $1 billion enterprise value public company.

Good has been in the REIT and financial services industries for nearly three decades. As a nationally recognized corporate and securities lawyer, he was lead counsel on over 200 securities offerings—the majority in the REIT industry—raising more than $25 billion. He served as outside general counsel to over 10 NYSE-listed REITs, including CubeSmart, Mid-America Apartment Communities, Education Realty Trust, Quadra Realty Trust, and AmREIT.

During his legal career, Good held leadership positions at several nationally known law firms. He was a partner and co-chair of the REIT practice group at Morrison & Foerster LLP. He also served as a partner and head of the REIT practice at Bass, Berry & Sims PLC. Prior to that he was a shareholder and chair of the securities and M&A practice groups at Baker Donelson.

Good earned a BBA in accounting from the University of Memphis. He attained his CPA designation and practiced with a CPA firm before receiving his J.D. from University of Memphis School of Law.

The first phase of our development brought dozens of properties into NexPoint Storage Partners’ portfolio. Our firm’s leadership has sought to grow these assets with acquisitions in relevant markets that have growth characteristics in line with our investment strategy. As NexPoint Storage Partners continues to develop assets and expand portfolio holdings, the partnership that began in 2020 via the acquisition of Jernigan Capital has served as an inflection point for our collective team and we believe will continue to bode well for us and our stakeholders the years to come.

Since going public at the beginning of Q2 2015, we delivered to JCAP stockholders a 27.3% total shareholder return, which is 12.6% higher than the total shareholder return of the MSCI U.S. REIT Index and 46.5% higher than the average total shareholder return of small cap REITs (under $2 billion of market capitalization) over that same period.
NexPoint was a key contributor to this outperformance, providing us with a sizeable and very important allocation of capital in July 2016 that funded our investment activities in 2017, our highest year of growth. We have developed a strong partnership with the NexPoint team over that period and are looking forward to integrating our respective teams, building on our strong investment track record and turning NexPoint Storage Partners into a household name in the industry for years to come.

The Real Estate Team

NexPoint is cementing its reputation as a world-class self-storage platform with significant growth capacity. Through our investment in Jernigan Capital and the subsequent opportunities we have identified, we believe we are uniquely positioned to make cost effective storage investments.
